Faculty and Staff Connections
Faculty and Staff offices are equipped with wired Ethernet connections. In order to connect to the internet through the ethernet jack, your computer must be configured with a static IP address assigned by OIT. This address is unique to your computer or printer and can not be shared with other devices.
Network Requests
All requests for network services should be placed via the Online Support. Center. These include the following:
- IP assignment Request
- Network jack installation
- Network jack activation
Office Moves
Because each computer is assigned a specific IP address designed to work in a specific location, you must obtain a new IP address when moving equipment to a new building or office. Please allow ample time to accommodate the move as it requires coordination with various IT departments. Move requests may also be placed online via help.smu.edu.
Conference Rooms
Conference rooms are often equipped with network jacks configured with a dynamic IP address. This allows anyone in the SMU community to plug a network enabled device into these jacks. However, in order to obtain an IP address and access the internet, the individual will need to register their computer via the registration portal. Your web browser will automatically redirect to this registration page.
