Forefront

Microsoft Forefront is an antivirus and antispyware application available for Windows computers only.

Licensing:

It is covered for all faculty and staff office machines through our campus license agreement. It is also covered for one home machine for faculty and staff.

How to obtain the software:

Faculty and Staff office computers should have Forefront installed as part of the standard load.

Faculty and Staff may obtain Forefront for their home computers from our server. (Requires a VPN connection)

Additional Details:

Forefront client definitions are installed via Microsoft updates. For home machines, Microsoft updates must be installed (upgrade to Windows Updates) before the definition files will be installed.

Forefront can be configured to alert you whenever a change is being made to critical system files. This feature is enabled by default for office machines. For home machines, simply double click on the forefront icon. Then click Tools--Options. Verify that "use this program" is checked under administrator options.

The Forefront icon changes color depending on the status of the application. If the system is in good health, the icon will be green. If the system is yellow, it typically indicates that a scan hasn't been run in a few days or definitions need to be installed. If the icon is blue, it is alerting you of a change that is being made to a critical system file. If the icon is red, Forefront has detected malware on your computer. Double click on the Forefront icon to determine the next appropriate action.
