My Browser Crashes When I am Using Blackboard

Blackboard makes extensive use of Java. The visual text editor box is a Java application. If you don't have the latest version of Java your browser window or tab may freeze or quit when it encounters a Bb page that includes a text box.

This is very important verify that your up to date before an online quiz. If you don't and the quiz has essay questions you may loose your answers when you encounter a text box.

You can test Bb by going to an area with a visual text editor box. These are commonly found in tools such as discussions, messages, and assignments - any text box with the three formatting tool bars.

To determine if you have the latest version of Java:

Windows Users: Find the Do I Have Java link just below the big download button at Java.com. The page will check to see if you need to install a new version.

MacOS Users: Go to the Apple menu at the top right of your desktop. Choose Software Update...

We have found that sometimes you may actually have the latest version installed and still things don't work. If this happens simply go to Java.com and reinstall.
