Access.SMU Browser Configuration

Recommended Browsers

Windows : Internet Explorer 7,8  or Firefox 3.5, 3.6

MAC: Safari 2.04, 3.0, 4 Firefox 3.0, 3.5

For ALL browsers

  • Cookies must be enabled.
  • Pop Ups should be allowed for access.smu
  • In order to minimize horizontal scrolling, your screen resolution should be set to 1024x768 or higher.

Although the application supports a variety of web browsers, SMU is not able to test and validate each and every version. Please ensure that all patches and updates are applied and kept up-to-date.

Instructions on clearing the internet cache

Configuring Internet Explorer 7 or 8 

Empty Cache

  1. Exit Internet Explorer
  2. Click Start on your windows toolbar
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click Internet Options
  5. On the General tab, locate the "Browsing history" section.
  6. Click Delete
  7. Click Delete All

Add to Trusted Sites

  1. Click the Security tab
  2. Click the "Trusted Sites" icon
  3. Click the "Sites" button
  4. Uncheck the box "Require server verifications (https:) for all sites in this zone"
  5. Type "*.smu.edu" in the "add this web site to the zone" field
  6. Click Add
  7. Click Close

Accept Cookies

  1. Click the Privacy tab
  2. Click Advanced
  3. Confirm that the word "accept" is selected under First-party cookies and Third-party cookies.
  4. If "accept" is not selected:
    1. click Override automatic cookie handling
    2. Click Accept under first-party cookies
    3. Click Accept under third party cookies
    4. Check "Always allow session cookies"
    5. Click OK

    Modifying Pop Up Blocker Settings

    1. Click the Privacy tab
    2. If Pop Up blocker is enabeld, click Settings
    3. Add *.smu.edu to the allowed websites
    4. Click Close
    5. Click OK

    Configuring Safari for Mac OS X

    Empty Cache (optional)

    1. Open Safari
    2. Select Safari
    3. Select Empty Cache
    4. Click the Empty button in the message box

    Remove Cookies (optional)

    1. Open Safari
    2. Select Safari
    3. Select Preferences
    4. At the top of the Preferences window, click Security
    5. Click the Show Cookies button
    6. Select the Remove All button
    7. Click the Done button
    8. Close the Preferences window

    Enable JavaScript

    1. Open Safari
    2. Select Safari
    3. Select Preferences
    4. At the top of the Preferences window, click Security
    5. Under Web Content, click to check the box to Enable JavaScript
    6. Close the Preferences window

    Enable Cookies

    1. Open Safari
    2. Select Safari
    3. Select Preferences
    4. At the top of the Preferences window, click Security
    5. Under Accept Cookies, click to select Always
    6. Close the Preferences window

    Turn off Pop Up Blockers

    1. Click the Safari Menu
    2. Uncheck Block Pop Up windows
