SMU HR Resources

Probationary Review Discussion and Documents

Regular meetings and a summary discussion of the probationary period should be scheduled with the new employee. If desired, the manager may ask the employee to complete a self review for discussion purposes, however, Human Resources no longer requires that a self-review form be submitted from the employee. Managers should retain copies of any self-review documentation provided by the employee in their departmental employee files. Supervisors will provide their feedback via the online form only. A paper review form from the supervisor is no longer required by Human Resources.

Additional Documents
Managers should also collect and retain the printed certificates of completion for both of the required tutorials, Preventing Workplace Discrimination and Preventing Sexual Harassment. If the new employee has not completed them yet, the manager should ensure that completion occurs as soon as possible. The manager should retain copies of the certificates in the employee's departmental file; it is not necessary to forward copies to Human Resources.
