Introduction to Human Resources

Understanding the role of Human Resources (HR) and engaging in a partnership with the department early on in the new manager's career at SMU will support his/her assimilation and integration into the campus culture, as well as increase managerial effectiveness during the transition.

Attendance in this workshop will provide new managers with an understanding of the many services available to support them as they engage and manage not only themselves, but also their organization.

  • Learn the various functions of HR and how the HR mission supports employees as well as the University's customers
  • Understand when to access HR’s services and why timing can be a very important consideration
  • Review the value of building trust and providing clear expectations as you engage your organization
  • Learn about the Gallup organization's set of questions that drive employee engagement
