The holidays and winter break are upon us! We may be surrounded by friends and family and you know what that means? Yes, food, and lots of it! That's why we timed the Menu For Success challenge to take us through the break, helping us focus on how we can "eat to live," and not "live to eat!"
Menu For Success Informational Video - How to logon and track your activity during the challenge.
To earn a credit for this challenge you will need to:
1. Track your food intake by "rating your plate" for one meal per day. (Required for 32 out of the 42 days)
Weekly tracking is not available for this challenge, however, you may track your ratings on paper and enter them later when it's more convenient.
How To Rate Your Plate:
Pick one of your meals for the day (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) to rate.
Grant yourself one point for each of the following items that you include on your plate:
- lean protein
- whole grain starch
- fruit
- vegetable
Add 1 additional point if you omitted dessert.
The maximum amount of points that you can earn while rating your plate is 5 points.
There is no minimum on the number of points you must accumulate to complete this requirement. You must simply rate your plate for at least 1 meal on 32 out of the 42 days of the challenge. The point-system is just an easy way to encourage you to be mindful about what you're putting on your plate.
Our method for this challenge is based upon the new www.ChooseMyPlate.gov recommendations.
2. Attend one of the nutrition seminars or complete an approved alternative seminar.
Check your first weekly newsletter for information on approved alternatives. These will be online seminars
you can complete on your own. We'll also post them here before the challenge begins.
3. Prepare a healthy meal at home at least 2 times per week.
Healthy recipes will be emailed in our weekly newsletter or you may choose other healthy recipes by
visiting the Recipes section of the website. Log your completion weekly.
Note: There is no pre/post assessment for this challenge.
Weekly newsletters will be emailed to participants every Wednesday. Look for an email from LiveHealthy SMU Wellpower or livehealthy@livehealthyamerica.org. If you don't receive your newsletter, please email us at wellpower@smu.edu and let us know.
