Long-Term Disability

Long-Term Disability (LTD) Plan benefits are provided through an insurance policy paid for by the University. All regular full-time staff and faculty are automatically covered under SMU's LTD Plan after three months of employment.

Following 90 consecutive days of total disability, you will receive monthly income equal to 60% of your basic monthly salary, up to a maximum of $15,000 per month. Your monthly LTD benefit will be reduced by Social Security and any other disability income you may be eligible to receive, such as state disability, workers' compensation, and benefits paid under another Long-Term Disability policy.

Benefits will not accrue beyond the duration specified below:
