Bridwell Library provides academic resources to support the educational programs of Perkins School of Theology and the Graduate Program in Religious Studies. It is the principal bibliographic resource at Southern Methodist University for the fields of theology and religious studies. The library’s particular subject area strengths are Christian thought and theology, Biblical studies, church history and American Methodism.
The types of materials acquired by Bridwell Library include books, serials, microforms, audio/visual media, databases, digital items of all types, and rare materials. As of August 2010, the library collection includes 365,000 volumes, subscriptions to 1,200 periodicals and a wealth of information available through numerous microform and digital resources.
The circulating books and bound periodicals are housed on the basement level of the library. Current periodical issues, new books, general reference materials, and Methodist reference materials are housed in the three study rooms on the first floor.
