The DISD Mustang Scholars program places an SMU education within your reach by combining with other awards to guarantee that SMU tuition and fees are met. The program is currently available to Dallas Independent School District students exclusively. Continue reading to learn more about how you can join the community of Mustang Scholars at SMU.

Requirements:

  • Acceptance to SMU (Students may still submit an application for the Mustang Scholarship before knowing their admission decision.)
  • Graduation from a DISD high school
  • Texas residency
  • Pell Grant eligible
  • Mustang Scholar applicant essay
  • Selection panel interview 
How to Apply:
  • Submit an application for admission to SMU by January 15. Application fee waivers are available.
  • Submit an essay of 500 words or less by January 15 to ugadmission@smu.edu on the following topic: Discuss how the following quote applied to your academic career in high school and how it will apply to your time at SMU: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”- General Colin Powell
  • Submit your FAFSA and CSS/Profile by January15.
