Randy Trevino was born in McAllen, TX, and was raised in nearby Weslaco.  He graduated from Weslaco High School and attended Texas A&M University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1999.  While at A&M, Randy was a member of the Corps of Cadets and actively recruited prospective college students to the Corps and to the university in general.  As a cadet, he was also a member of the Ross Volunteers, the Official Honor Guard of the Governor of Texas.  He was also very active in other service organizations on campus and in the community.  Randy has over 9 years of experience in finance/sales in corporate settings.  His love of helping others has led him to pursue a career in an academic environment, and SMU is a great fit!

Randy’s college admissions advice:

Be involved. While grades and test scores are very important, having a well-rounded high school experience outside the classroom to combine with scores and grades will set a prospective student apart.  Active leadership and participation in student organizations, athletics, band, and community programs will demonstrate a desire for personal growth.

Start your admissions process early. Take the ACT and/or SAT your junior year; this allows you time to re-take any tests for possible improvement, if need be.  Apply to your selected schools early, thereby allowing you time to make an informed decision as to where to attend.

Go with your heart. In choosing a school, be sure to research not only the educational fit, but personal and developmental fit as well.  What you do outside the classroom will be just as helpful to you in your overall growth and will prepare you for the future.
