Years at SMU: Less than a year as an employee (graduated as a student in 2008)
Favorite thing about SMU: SMU has amazing people on campus! Our faculty, staff and students all create a welcoming and fun culture that make this a great place to work and go to school. SMU is big enough that there is always someone new to meet, but small enough that you run into your friends on campus on a daily basis.
Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is the top of the stairs of Dallas Hall in the evening. I love looking out at the beautiful trees lining the Boulevard with the Dallas skyline in the background. It helps me appreciate the beauty of SMU as well as all of the opportunities Dallas has to offer. It’s especially pretty during the holidays when there are lights on the trees!
Favorite place in Dallas: I love going to the White Rock Lake area, east of campus on Mockingbird. I didn’t discover this part of Dallas until well into my first year as a student. We are so lucky to have a beautiful lake in the heart of Dallas, and there are great walking/jogging trails as well as the Arboretum on the east side of the lake.
Favorite restaurant near campus: It’s so hard to choose!! So I will narrow it down to two… My favorite restaurant near campus is Victor Tangos on Knox/Henderson. It’s fun and chic with lots of great food! I also love Hattie’s in the Bishop Arts District. They serve gourmet southern food, which reminds me of the delicious food in my home state of South Carolina!
What I recommend during your stay in Dallas: The Arboretum at White Rock Lake has lakeside concerts on Tuesday and Thursday nights during the summer and fall. It’s a great place to take a picnic and listen to some great cover bands while looking out over the lake during the sunset. It’s a must for everyone living in or visiting Dallas!
