Christy Tanton was born and raised in the Houston area. After high school, Christy attended Texas A&M University to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2006. While an undergraduate student, Christy was extensively involved in her sorority's executive council and was vice president of recruitment for the College Panhellenic Council. From her extracurricular experiences, Christy obtained a job in the Department of Greek Life at Texas A&M, and pioneered the first Women of Color Retreat among other accomplishments. Christy then traveled as a consultant for her national sorority, visiting more than 30 institutions ranging from small private colleges to large public universities, consulting in the areas of recruitment, leadership, personal development and chapter excellence.

After traveling, Christy began full-time work on her Master’s degree at the University of Georgia in Athens. While at UGA, Christy worked in the Center for Leadership and Service as the graduate assistant to the official hosts and goodwill ambassador group on campus, as well as serving on the Chapter Advisory Board for her local sorority chapter. Christy completed her Master’s degree in education in college student affairs administration in 2010 and joined the SMU Admissions office soon after. Christy is the Houston-based Regional Director of Admissions, providing support and guidance to all Houston-area prospective students and their families.
