Years at SMU: Less than 1 year
Favorite thing about SMU: I love the Innovation Gym in the basement of Caruth Hall. I’m a nerd at heart (Mythbusters, anyone?) and seeing all of the cool inventions and hearing about the collaborative efforts of the students makes me wish that I was an undergrad again! Not only is this a great opportunity to help organizations across the world, it also provides hands-on experiences for SMU students that you cannot find on any other campus.
Favorite place on campus: Taubman Atrium in the Meadows building. It’s a great place for casual project meetings and for hanging out with your friends while enjoying a cup of coffee from the Meadows Starbucks cart.
Favorite place in Dallas: Definitely Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck in Reunion Tower (the “Big Golf Ball” in the skyline of Dallas)—what a view!
Favorite restaurant near campus: Twisted Root Burger Company serves these amazingly creative combinations of meat, cheese, bread, and toppings that are completely worth the exhausting workout that you’ll need to have to burn off the extra calories. For my fellow food junkies out there, the restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri! My favorites are The Verde and The Western.
What I recommend during your stay in Dallas: Run/bike/walk/mosey on down Katy Trail in Dallas. It’s a 3.5-mile long “Central Expressway” that connects the Mockingbird DART station to the American Airlines Center. It’s a hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle of city life and a refreshing alternative to cardio in a gym.
