Sustainability Means U

Sustainability Means U

SMU is committed to creating and sustaining an environment wherein the students, faculty, and community may continue to thrive today and in the future. SMU is proactive in seeking opportunities in which they can positively impact the surrounding Dallas community. The university seeks to unify the students, faculty, and administration as one body: educated and active in working to meet the present needs of our campus, while still insuring resources are preserved for the future. Academically, students are provided courses that focus on sustainability in various facets of their future careers by passionate faculty members dedicated to promoting green practices. SMU is also cognizant of their environmental impact in the community regarding new building projects therefore we have developed standards outlining sustainability requirements for all future construction. The measures we have taken to insure we are leaders in the field of sustainability have gained accreditations such as the Clean Air Award, listing on Princeton Review’s Green Guide to Colleges, and a ranking of 117 on the UI GreenMetric World University Rating. Our goal is to further this success through continued implementation of current sustainable practices as well as seeking new, innovative ways to preserve our community and become an even more prominent leader in university sustainability nationwide.
